Hi,
I am Clemens - Founder of Camphire. Before that I worked for a public authority in Germany. It was interesting to see what the people & tasks are like there. This was my first professional experience besides internships.
I'll try to make it short: It is great for everyone who likes to chill and clock in & out without having stress at work. In Germany most jobs in public authority can not be compared to a job at a company regarding the workload. I've seen it. I watched other people for months and could definitely see that had not much going on.
I had to do the same amount of work at the public administration in 10 months as I had to in 1 month at a company. But sitting around and pretending to be busy wasn't for me. This is a question everyone has to decide for themselves: Would you like sitting around all year pretending to be busy so you aren't finished with your actual work after 2h of being there and then got really nothing to do?
I don't blame the employees there. Sometimes I even envy them. The system is to blame. But not in this post. Anyways I think over the years it might become boring, right? Is this really fulfilling? Do people like to do nothing all day and wait for the day to end?
The public administration has great jobs to offer, and not every job is relaxing. But chances are high that it feels more like a part-time job workwise. I'd like people to know this because it will impact your life drastically.
Please share your thoughts with me on this - I don't consider myself to be right nor wrong. It's somewhere in between. But I haven't seen many offices from the inside. So for the ones that have - do you agree?
